HOLDING TANKS MAINTENANCE
The French law of the 16 January 2001 (Law n° 2001-43 art. 14 I), included in the Environment Code and the Maritime Port Code, forbids ocean dumping. On the one hand, ports are obliged to be equipped with equipment to receive boat waste such as oils, black sewage, scullery waste…And on the other hand, boaters are greatly encouraged, indeed forced to equip their boats with holding tanks. So, article R. 322-2 on the Conservation of the port of the Maritime Port Code stipulates that “Any boat irrespective of year of construction will have to have a holding or black sewage treatment installation in order to flush or empty these in adequate installations to preserve the cleanliness of ports and anchorage.” In the context of the treatment of black sewage, our researchers have developed bacteria-enzymatic doses, biodegradable at more than 99.9%, leading to a bacteria treatment of organic waste.
Discharge contained in “holding tanks” contain nutriments degradable by bacteria namely:
- proteins, nitrogen, carbamide, uric acid… These elements are decomposed by the enzymatic action of spoilage bacterium known as wild (nitrites and nitrates), ammonia (gas and alkaline caustic liquid).
- Sugars, cellulose and fibres: These elements are decomposed by wild bacteria, organic complexes, acids, alcohol which are the cause of bad smells and tank corrosion.
- Fats: These elements are decomposed by wild bacteria into putrefying derivatives such as fatty acids.
- Derivatives incorporating sulphur elements: H2S (hydrogen sulphide)and smelly mercaptants.
The regular adding of Bio Zym enzymatic quantities to black sewage tanks enables the following elements to develop:
Bio Zym provides lyophilised bacteria (in other words living) which multiply from rehydration. This chosen bacteria is neither:
- dangerous for man, fauna and flora and meets safety standards in effect.
- not gas producing. They therefore don’t give out any bad smells when they decompose unlike bacteria known as wild (in other words not chosen).
Bio Zym provides enzymes, nutriments and oligo-elements which serve as a “starter” for lyophilised bacteria. These enzymes accelerate the nutrient status of black sewage.
In conclusion, BIO-ZYM’s different bacterial strains will:
- compete with wild bacteria (biodegradability with liquefaction effect).
- Improve:
a. The chemical oxygen demand (C.O.D.)
b. The biochemical oxygen demand(B.O.D.)
- Reduce and avoid smelly emissions of tanks containing black sewage.
